Here at Sports World News, we will count down each NFL team's 2014 draft needs and perfect fits. At the end of each story, we will make a pick on who the team could take at their position.
2013 Review: The Falcons were a huge disappointment in 2013 after consecutive years of being considered a Super Bowl contender. The Falcons were crushed by injuries and with the sheer number of injured players, very few teams could have contended. The Falcons are back at it for 2014 and are a popular pick as a sleeper team.
Needs:
Offensive Tackle: The Falcons have a franchise quarterback in Matt Ryan and they need to start protecting him with some line help. The Falcons have nothing special at tackle so adding two new ones could be just what the doctor ordered. Ryan will be forever grateful.
Tight End: Tony Gonzalez is gone and the Falcons have nothing of note at the tight end position at this point. Eric Ebron would be a great fit, but at No. 6 that would be a huge reach. A second or third round tight end should do the job and whoever it ends up being will have a field day as Ryan’s third option.
Defensive End: The Falcons have needed defensive end help for a few season now and this is the year to make the splash. The Falcons are rumored to be interested in trading up for Jadeveon Clowney and if they can pull it off they will be set in the pass rush.
Targets: Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina
Khalil Mack, DE/OLB, Buffalo
Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn
Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M
Best First Round Fit: Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina
The Falcons could solve all their pass rushing woes if they can pull a trade off for the best pass rushing prospect in the last decade. Clowney would be front and center for a team that could rebound back into contention over night if the ball bounces their way. Clowney’s one perfect place is the Atlanta Falcons.
