Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan had his difficulties last season when injuries befell most of the skill players around him, but with a healthy arsenal in Week 1 he set a career-high in passing yards with 448 vs. the Saints.
"It's a good start. We've got a long way to go," Ryan said. "That's one thing that I have learned in six years previous to this, is it's a long season. You can't get too high and too low after Week 1.
"It's certainly a good start for us in the (NFC South). It's what we wanted to do ... but we've got to get back to work. We're going against a very good defense against Cincinnati next week."
While Matt Ryan is established among the upper echelon of quarterbacks in the NFL, Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton hasn't quite reached that point yet. His No. 1 wide receiver A.J. Green sees Dalton reaching that level in 2014.
"He's going to be a top five quarterback," Green told the team's official website. "That's how I feel. He's poised." Green's a big part of that, as he showed in Week 1 with a six-catch performance in which he piled up 131 yards and a highlight reel touchdown.
While Green is making plays downfield, the Bengals made diverse use of running back Giovani Bernard in the victory. He rushed for just 48 yards, but caught six passes and totaled 110 yards from scrimmage.
"We try to create space for our players to make plays in," Bengals coach Hue Jackson said. "We need to still get more chunk plays. Obviously we got the biggest chunk at the end of the game which was sensational. When you are spreading people out there's potential for big plays to happen with the kind of athletes that we have here."
