Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo is competing in his record-breaking sixth UEFA Euro tournament in this year's edition, having previously appeared in 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020.

However, the 39-year-old will not be able to extend his record for the most appearances in the tournament.

Ronaldo has confirmed that UEFA Euro 2024 will be his final appearance for the Portuguese national team in the tournament, effectively ruling out any participation in 2028.

"It is, without doubt, my last European Championship. But I'm not emotional about that. I'm moved by all that football means, by the enthusiasm I have for the game, the enthusiasm for seeing my supporters, my family, the affection people have for me," Ronaldo said in Portuguese to the local newspaper O Jogo.

With the game going to extra time following a goalless affair in the first 90 minutes, Ronaldo missed a crucial penalty in the 104th minute, with his shot saved by Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
