Boxing: Ex-NBA Player Stephen Jackson Wants Shot at Ryan Garcia; Boxer's Parents Pleads for Understanding

Ryan Garcia continues his unhinged behavior on social media, with the latest incident resulting in his ban from professional boxing.

World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman intervened after clips of the troubled boxer made the rounds on the internet, where he is heard saying the N-word and spewing hate towards "all Muslims" and the African community.

Sulaiman said he is expelling Garcia from any activity in the organization and that the WBC "reject any form of discrimination. I fear for Ryan well well-being as he has declined multiple attempts for our help with mental health and substance abuse."

While others are trying to go the corporate route, ex-NBA player Stephen Jackson wants to elevate the situation and punish the 25-year-old boxer.

"Somebody tell  @RyanGarcia pull up to 3rd Ward Texas and say that shit again about G Floyd and see what happen. When people bring up the dead it shows who's really dying inside. Free Game. It's a diff set of rules outside the ring kid. Get some help before it's too late," he wrote on X.

Garcia, who has since then apologized for his words, brought up the name of George Floyd in his live video and said that he wants to bring back the man to life to kill him again. Floyd's death in 2020 sparked numerous and massive anti-racist protests not only in America but also in many parts of the world.

Ryan Garcia's parents plead for understanding

Garcia's parents also instantly came to the defense of their son. He explained last month that his behavior might be rooted in the struggles his parents, particularly his mother, are going through.

According to Henry and Lisa Garcia, as Ring Magazine writer Jake Donovan posted, whatever Ryan is showing in public is not who he really is.

"Our son has recently made statements that do not align with his, or our family's, true character or beliefs. Our family unequivocally does not support any statements he has made regarding race or religion - these do not reflect who Ryan truly is and how he was raised. Those who know Ryan can attest to this fact," they said.

The couple also pointed to their son's mental well-being and that they are already seeking help.

"Ryan has been open about his ongoing struggle with mental health over the years and as a family we are committed to ensuring and encouraging that he receives the necessary help to navigate this very challenging time and address both his immediate and long-term well-being. We appreciate the continued support, prayers and compassion."

Does Ryan Garcia have a mental illness?

The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC), back in March, requested Garcia to undergo a mental health evaluation. It was requested before his fight with Devin Haney.

He won the match, but it was forfeited after he was charged with using a banned substance before the fight.

Garcia rejected the request, citing a feeling of uneasiness. He even threatened the NYSAC.

"I felt demeaned... I definitely felt isolated and I felt targetted," he said.

"I didn't feel good about them wanting to do a mental evaluation. It kind of makes me doubt myself. It kind of hurt me and like if this causes real mental issues, I'm going to sue you."

By April 20, ESPN reported that Ryan Garcia passed a standard competency test, and his brain function analysis found nothing unusual.
