Tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET on NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens will clash in a rematch of Super Bowl XLVII with much less at stake. These two squads will be opening up their preseason schedule, but fans not near a TV can live stream it by clicking this link. 49ers fans can also listen to the game on KNBR 680, while Ravens fans can tune in to 1090 WBAL.
The 49es running back situation bears watching; while other teams are searching to find someone steady to handle the load, the 49ers have a group of rushers fighting for carries.
Frank Gore is expected to lead the charge barring injury, but he's no longer a spring chicken and Ohio State product Carlos Hyde should be in line for some work after Kendall Hunter was lost for the season to injury.
49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh had high praise for Hyde recently, comparing him to the man he's likely to replace eventually-Gore.
"Carlos gets football, understands football; it's natural for him to understand the game, similar to Frank Gore," he said. "And we're seeing those things, and both are very good signs and bode well for us."
Hyde rushed for 31 touchdowns over his final two seasons with the Buckeyes, and came up just nine yards shy of 2,500.
Ravens fans will be able to get their first glimpse tonight of Panthers import Steve Smith, another downfield weapon that might be able to wring more productivity out of quarterback Joe Flacco's strong right arm.
