Tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET the UFC 175 fight card will begin on UFC Fight Pass, before giving way to the Prelims on Fox Sports 1, followed by the main card on pay-per-view. The main card is highlighted by women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey defending her title vs. Alexis Davis, and Chris "All American" Weidman defending the middleweight crown against Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida. The UFC 175 card has finally arrived despite myriad controversies involving a slew of combatants expected to make this a star-studded event. Vitor Belfort and Chael Sonnen were both expected to be in Las Vegas tonight, but PED-related issues forced both men off the card and sent Sonnen into retirement. Multiple failed PED tests have also cost Sonnen his job as a Fox Sports 1 analyst.
After a fairly tame buildup in her last fight against Sara McCann, Rousey and Davis had a bit more back-and-forth. Davis has said that Rousey's previous instances of trash talking and disrespecting opponents would create an untenable karma situation that will be carried out tonight. Oddsmakers don't seem to agree though, as Rousey will enter the octagon as a heavy favorite (-1200).
Rousey (9-0) has never lost a fight, and even showed an expanded repertoire vs. McCann by winning her first match by something other than an armbar. Davis (16-5) is a quality opponent, but she's likely to be devoured by Rousey tonight. Prediction: Rousey via submission in Round 2.
Weidman vs. Machida has been billed as a battle of will vs. skill, but the "All American" may be more skillful than he's getting credit for. He is intent on finishing Machida, who is known for sitting back and striking with lethal counters. Weidman is going to be the aggressor, as he was in both his fights against the legendary Anderson "The Spider" Silva, so he may fall into a Machida trap.
Prediction: Weidman via submission in Round 4.
