Tonight at 8:15 p.m. ET the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves (22-17) will head to St. Louis to face the reigning National League champion Cardinals for a three-game series. Fans can expect some good pitching tonight; the Braves will send out unbeaten Ervin Santana (4-0, 1.99 ERA) to face Lance Lynn (4-2, 3.83 ERA) in a faceoff that can be live streamed by clicking this link. Braves fans can listen to the game on WCNN 680, while Cardinals fans can get the radio broadcast on KMOX 1120.
Santana missed one start due to a bruised thumb, but the last time he took the mound he fired off a gem, striking out seven Cubs over seven frames. "Santana was terrific -- better than terrific, really, when you throw in an hour-plus rain delay," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "He did a terrific job."
Santana, a late offseason add once the Braves lost Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy to elbow injuries, has been the ace of Atlanta's staff and a savior. His opponent, Lynn, is not counted on to front St. Louis' staff. However, they do need him to perform better than he has over his last four starts in which he's had an ERA over 4.00.
Lynn sounded frustrated after his last start, in which he coughed up four runs in an inning in a loss to the Pirates. "There are going to be some games where I throw the ball right down the middle three straight times and I get three straight outs," Lynn said. "(Saturday) it just didn't happen when I made my pitch."
A notable name in tonight's lineup will be second baseman Kolten Wong, who was briefly demote to get his swing together. "It got me right back into where I need to be," Wong said of hitting the minors.
"I'm the kind of player that I need to play as much as possible. I love being in every game. When I got the amount of repetitions that I got down there, it just makes me always on time with everything I'm doing."
