Lucas Matthysse hasn't been seen or heard from much since being upset by Danny Garcia on September 14th, but fans of the Argentine Machine should fear not-Matthysse's adviser Sam Watson said the power-punching phenomenon will be back in action in May.
"Lucas is getting ready for a fight but that won't happen until maybe I would say May, somewhere around in May," said Watson. "He is just relaxing right now. He has nothing wrong with him. It was a good tough fight between Danny and him but he is ok now and all I know is he will be fighting around May."
Matthysse was one of the most scorching names in the sport heading into his clash with Garcia, and likely would've received a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr. had he won. Instead he was outboxed by Garcia, who managed to cut the Machine which affected him for the remainder of the bout.
Now he will begin the rebuilding process, although there's no clear opponent apparent. One name that comes to mind is Ruslan Provodnikov, the "Siberian Rocky" who defeated Mike Alvarado in Alvarado's home town his last time out. Prior to fighting Alvarado, Provodnikov battered Timothy Bradley, knocking him down a few times and nearly beating the No. 3 pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
"Lucas Matthysse is a great fighter and he showed it in his fight with Peterson but I said it before; I am ready to fight anybody," said Provodnikov. "It doesn't matter, any of the big fighters because I know I will be exciting in the big fights. I'll say 'Yes' even before the fight [terms are given.] That's what happened with Bradley. I said 'Yes' even before I knew the terms."
There is little doubt these two would put on a show of epic proportions that would probably not go the distance. Outside or Provodnikov the options are scarce.
