Recently news of Jets tight end Kellen Winslow Jr.'s November arrest hit the newspaper pages, reporting that he was busted with synthetic marijuana outside of a Target store in New Jersey. New details have emerged of a more embarrassing sort that were originally left out of the story.
According to reports, a witness called the police on Winslow not because he was smoking the synthetic marijuana, but because she caught the Jets' pass-catcher masturbating inside his car with the window open.
A section of the police report that had originally been redacted read, "As she exited her vehicle, she commented to the male regarding how cold it was. As she stood near the open driver side window of the Escalade, she observed the males [sic] erect penis. She stated that she believed he was masturbating. [The woman] provided a written statement regarding her account."
When cops arrived on the scene at 5:30 p.m., an officer spotted Winslow "slouched in his seat and moving around." He told the officer he was lost and looking for a Boston Market. While the officer said Winslow was wearing dark sweatpants and wasn't exposed, there were "two open containers of Vaseline on his center console." Cops also found two plastic bags marked "Mr. Happy" and "Funky Monkey." Winslow claimed he smoked the synthetic pot at his home because the NFL doesn't test for it. He allegedly buys the drugs online or at gas stations.
Winslow's year, his first with the Jets, was unremarkable on the field and rife with issues off of it. He missed four games due to a suspension for violating the NFL's performance enhancing drug policy, and had little impact in the 12 games he suited up.
In total he caught 31 passes for 388 yards and two scores and averaged a paltry 32 yards per game.
