WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair is known as one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time by many wrestling fans, but now he may be preparing to wrestle with the law. According to multiple reports, there is a warrant out for "The Nature Boy's" arrest after a failure to pay his ex-wife over $32,000 stemming from divorce and legal fees.
According to the Charlotte Business Journal, Flair has an arrest warrant out for him in Mecklenburg County, N.C. The report states that the warrant is for failure to pay $32,352.51 in post-separation support and legal fees to his ex-wife Jacqueline. If Flair ends up being taken in on the warrant, he wouldn't be released until he paid the full amount. "The Nature Boy" has a hearing for the warrant on Jan. 24.
Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that the warrant for Flair's arrest was the same one that was originally released in the summer of 2013 and it is still an outstanding warrant as of Thursday afternoon. Flair has had a lot of financial and legal troubles over the years, leading to him living in Atlanta and Florida rather than his native North Carolina.
Flair is expected to make an appearance back in court on Jan. 24 to try and settle the situation. Flair recently ruffled the feathers of the Carolina Panthers--the football team from his home state--when he showed support for the San Francisco 49ers by showing up to their hotel prior to their 23-20 victory over the Green Bay Packers in an NFL wild-card playoff game last week.
The WWE is hosting WrestleMania 31 in the Bay Area in 2015.
Flair, who is reportedly a Panthers fan, pumped up the 49ers for their win and was set to appear at the game Sunday at Bank of America Stadium when the Panthers host the 49ers this Sunday, but CBS Sports reported that Flair received death threats from Carolina fans for his actions and he will no longer be attending. His legal troubles could also have something to do with the reasons for him not going to the game.
Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith--a fan of Flair's--was upset that the wrestling legend supported the 49ers.
"As a guy who actually has a Ric Flair robe I'm real disappointed in seeing that," Smith told the Charlotte Observer. "Real disappointed. I'm not sure if he'll [Flair] get the invite here. That Golden Gate Bridge has been burned."
Flair's agent issued a statement on behalf of him after the controversial visit with the 49ers:
"When the 49ers reached out and WWE asked Ric to jet up there, of course he said yes," said Melinda Morris Zanoni, Flair's agent at Legacy Talent and Entertainment, according to CBS Sports, "and he's friends with a bunch of the 49ers just like he is with the Panthers, Packers and many other NFL players. But no, Ric does not intend on attending the Panthers vs. 49ers game this weekend."
Added Flair: "What can I say? I've always been a very good heel!"
By scorning his home state and having police looking for him, times are rough for "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair.
