CM Punk is closing in on his UFC debut.
After many setbacks, the former WWE World Champion will hit the Octagon and take on Mickey Gall at UFC 203 on Sept. 11 in Ohio. It will mark his first fight since signing with the MMA promotion in December 2014. He left the WWE in January of that year due to his many frustrations.
Ahead of his debut, Punk is appearing in a four-part documentary entitled "Evolution of Punk," which chronicles his road to the Octagon. He's also promoting his fight heavily now that he's less than a month away from it.
Punk recently had a tell-all interview with Hot 97 and addressed many topics. Here are some interesting tidbits from the interview.
--Punk addressed his wife, former WWE Diva AJ Lee, and was asked whether or not she was nervous to watch him take part in a real fight. He said she isn't worried and is actually more concerned about him eating pancakes with her everyday.
---Regarding Conor McGregor's recent comments about WWE Superstars being "p--sies," which drew the ire of Hall of Famer Ric Flair and countless other stars, Punk said he wasn't surprised by it. He also said that people no longer have to be tough to be in the WWE locker room, though some WWE Superstars themselves are tough. The "Best in the World" said he was surprised by how many WWE Superstars responded to the comments and said they should have known better. He said fighting on Twitter is embarrassing and WWE stars got "worked."
--Sticking with the locker room, Punk named guys like Flair, Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit, The Undertaker, Edge and others who caused him to be tough in the locker room and fight for his spot in the company.
--As it pertains to wrestling, Punk said he no longer misses the weekly platform he was given to be the Punk character. He added that he got it all out of his system and doesn't think he'd still be able to do it.
--Punk intimated that he wanted another fight after Gall, but was non-committal. He said he'll likely take a beach vacation with Lee after his fight, but he will also likely quickly get bored and want a return. He made it clear his post-fight plans hinge on what happens against Gall. He said he won't commit to another fight, but he believes he'll be ansy to get back into the Octagon. While he'll likely want another fight, he made it clear he also enjoys his freedom and a part of him would love to attend "a bunch of Cubs games" instead of potentially training for another bout.
