Coliin Kaepernick Miami Dolphins Hat Controversy Revisited: Teammate NaVorro Bowman Calls San Francisco 49er Quarterback's Decision 'Huge Mistake'

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick didn't like the criticism he received for wearing a Miami Dolphins hat during a Fourth of July party. Just imagine how he feels, now that one of his teammates has taken him to task for it.

According to NFL.com, 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman called Kaepernick's fashion choice a "huge mistake" during an appearance on NFL Network's "NFL Total Access."

"This is a huge mistake by Kaep," Bowman said. "I'm sure he understands that now. In his defense, we're young, in our era these days we like to match our snapbacks with our outfits.

"The hats now these days are very important to the outfit, so Kaep I understand what you did, but let's stay away from the NFL teams," he added. "Stick to NBA, go to college or the baseball hats."

Bowman was not asked whether he shared his thoughts with Kaepernick prior to going public with them. Bowman is entering his fourth year with San Francisco, and he's coming off a 2012 season in which he recorded 148 tackles.

NFL.com added that Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, also a guest on "NFL Total Access" also was asked about the Kaepernick controversy. He sided with Bowman, NFL.com reported.

"That's the rule for the most part, to stay out of conversations like this," Smith said. "You stick to baseball or hockey or whatever."

After pictures of Kaepernick in his Dolphins hat went viral, he took a photo himself with the Dolphins hat and wrote, "This the hat y'all mad at? I'm goin wear what I want regardless of what you think," Kaepernick said, via Instagram. "All you need to worry about is the fact that I grind for my teammates and the 49ers! I plan on doin this until they won't let me in the building! #ridiculous #y'allmustbebored"

And as USA Today pointed out, the Pouncey brothers - Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey and Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey - made Kaepernick's incident a minor one when they wore "Free Hernandez" hats in Miami last weekend, in support of former Florida Gators teammate Aaron Hernandez, who is being charged with murder in the death of Odin Lloyd in late June.
