Aaron Hernandez, the ex-New England Patriots star tight end who stands accused of orchestrating the murder of Odin Lloyd, and pulling the trigger in his shooting death, will be back in court again today at 9:00 a.m. Follow Day 38 of the court proceedings free here.
Shayanna Jenkins, the fiancée of Hernandez who has been charged with perjury for making misleading statements before the trial began, testified about the box she was seen on camera removing from Hernandez’s home after Lloyd was murdered. Jenkins still maintains that she doesn’t know what was inside the box, but said it had a “skunky” smell consistent with marijuana.
Hernandez’s marijuana use has come up frequently over the course of this trial, and seems to be the basis of his friendship with Lloyd, whom it’s said Hernandez called the “blunt master.”
Jenkins also said she does not remember where she threw the box out. "I found a random dumpster, and put it in there," Jenkins said. She also claimed the stress of the situation may be the cause of her forgetfulness. Lloyd was dating Jenkins’ sister Shaneah, and now the two don’t speak.
"I was nervous. I had to comfort my sister. Everyone's emotions were on me, and it was a form of breaking down at that point.”
There had been some speculation that tales of Hernandez hitting on women at bars as well as a babysitter might cause Jenkins to flip on him, but that is not the case. Jenkins characterized her relationship with Hernandez as “on again off again” and said his affairs were no secret to her.
"I made a decision that if I was going to move back in with Aaron, I would need to compromise with his behavior, including his infidelity," Jenkins said before crying.
