The moral of the story is don't reach out on social media to Colin Kaepernick unless you're a fan.
Bleacher Report discovered a photo on Instagram that Kaepernick, the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback, posted on his account of him putting his signature on the arm of a female fan who had his name and number on her arm.
Hostile tweet shows loss of good-guy persona Colin Kaepernick had as college QB?
Kaepernick responded, "The love people show me is crazy but very humbling! Thank you to all my fans who always hold me down! #Blessed #WhoDoYouLove #7tormsComing #IDontGetTired"
The social media moment is quite the departure of Kaepernick's infamous Twitter battle with an anonymous critic last month.
Colin Kaepernick lashes out at random critic on Twitter
Kaepernick is deep in offseason workouts as he tries to make himself a better quarterback in 2015 than the one who had his worst quarterback rating of his three years as a starter in 2014.
During his workouts, he shared a tweet, talking about his hard work, said he did 1,000 abdominals reps - to which a random fan took a cheap shot but his comment was one that was bound to be made in the social media world once Kaepernick sent his.
Instead of blowing off the comment and realizing that not everybody is going to find his tweets to be the greatest things ever, Kaepernick let his critic have it in a response.
"@battman_returns are you illiterate or just ignorant? Read the tweet again better yet give me your breakdown of every defensive coverage"
"@battman_returns you got 8 followers bruh your own family don't even want to know what you doin! Get better at life!"
Kaepernick is one of the more talked-about figures both in the media and social media, so he could be forgiven for being a bit sensitive about anything he does becoming a headline.
But if he can continue to praise his supporters while learning to ignore his detractors, he should find that he'll have more people pulling for him on Sunday - even non-49ers fans.
He should also know that he's not going to please everybody all the time, no matter what he does and he shouldn't get defensive at the negative sentiments directed his way because those are battles he won't win.
