The Spurs have rolled the Blazers in impressive fashion during the first three games of this series, winning each contest by 15 or more points. Some Spurs are attributing their dominant play to their Game 7 throttling of the Mavericks in Round 1.
"We had our back against the wall and we had to play good," Boris Diaw said. "We've been playing the same way since then -- so probably a turning point for us."
Blazers coach Terry Stotts agrees, noting that the Game 7 triumph has triggered some staggeringly effective offense. "This is as well as I've seen them play all season," Stotts said. "By Game 7 against Dallas, they came out of the gate and they haven't stopped since then."
Despite the 3-0 hole, the young Blazers are at least talking like they believe a comeback is possible. "Monday is a new game, and we are confident we are capable of winning," Portland point guard Damian Lillard said.
"It is also about our pride. We do not want to come out here and get swept. We still believe we can win a game -- we have to come out here and play like it."
With the way San Antonio has been executing though, it will be difficult. In addition to the joy of winning, a sweep would allow Gregg Popovich to rest the aging legs of his core players while the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers do battle in their back-and-forth tilt.
"We'd love to close this thing out," Tim Duncan said. "We've had pretty decent control of it throughout and we want to finish it the right way and get some rest."
