The Golden State Warriors unveiled their brand new yellow short-sleeved alternate jerseys against the San Antonio Spurs on a nationally televised ESPN game. The Warriors, possibly powered by their new duds battled the top team in the NBA tooth and nail and pulled out a 107-101 overtime win.
The number one reason for Golden State's upset was bench stud Jarret Jack, who logged 42 minutes and hung 30 points on the Spurs, hitting 11 of 22 shots and dishing out 10 assists. Power forward David Lee also posted an eye-popping stat line of 25 points and a career-high 22 rebounds.
Danny Green led San Antonio in scoring with 20 points, and Tim Duncan was right behind him with a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds. With four seconds left, Duncan took an inbounds pass at the top of the key and promptly hit Manu Ginobili with a bounce pass that Ginobili converted to tie the game 93-93.
The Warriors were able to seal the deal in overtime though, and Sixth Man of the Year candidate Jarret Jack become the first bench player to score 30 points and record 10 assists since Magic Johnson accomplished the feat in 1996. The Warriors were also without injury-prone center Andrew Bogut, who missed the game with back spasms.
The Warriors improved their record to 32-23, and are sixth in the Western Conference. Jack, who has become one of Golden State's go-to options during crunch time is averaging 29 minutes per game and is scoring 13.6 points and six assists a night as the first man off the bench. Lee, who was voted as an All-Star this season for the second time in his career, is averaging 19 points, 11 rebounds and four assists for the surprising Warriors.
The Warriors have spent time this year as the third seed in the West before an extended losing streak dropped them to sixth. They are six games back of the fourth-seeded Los Angeles Clippers and 11 games out of first.
