Tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET the No. 21 UConn Huskies (24-7, 12-6 AAC) will meet the No. 19 Memphis Tigers (23-8, 12-6) will meet in the American Athletic Conference tournament, which can be seen on ESPNU or live streamed for free by clicking this link. UConn fans can hear the radio broadcast on WTIC New Talk 1080, while Tigers fans may do likewise on News Radio 600 WREC.
While both squads are safe bets to make the field of 64 this year, neither is currently viewed as a particularly high seed. They can each change that by making a lengthy run through the AAC tourney, while the loser can damage their stock. UConn could be shell-shocked though, after losing brutally to the Louisville Cardinals.
Louisville ripped through them, scoring more in the second half than the Huskies managed all game in an 81-48 loss.
"This is the worst we could ever play. But guess what? As bad as we've played, we can turn it around. So, I'm not giving up on this season," coach Kevin Ollie said. "This season is not over yet, but I told them if we play like this we have two games and then everybody can go to spring break."
Memphis has been shaky as well, failing to register a streak of either wins or losses in their final four contests. They won their finale however, comfortably getting by a tough SMU club led by Larry Brown.
"This win showed our growth as a team and showed we have a dangerous team," top scorer Joe Jackson said. "Seeing so many different defenses over the year has prepared us for the road ahead. I was frustrated at halftime and wanted to play better for myself, and my teammates. I had to turn on an extra gear and get the game going."
