New York is 2-1 through three games of its five-game road trip while Florida is 3-1-1 in its last five games and prepares for its second tilt in a five-game homestand tonight. The first time these teams met, the Rangers defeated the Panthers 4-3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Nov. 10.
The Rangers were 2-0 on their road trip but had a six-game road winning streak snapped when the Tampa Bay Lightning shut them out in a 5-0 victory on Tuesday. Despite the team giving up five goals, goaltender Henrik Lundqvist didn't think the team played that badly.
"I didn't think we played that bad," Lundqvist said via NHL.com. "We made a few mistakes and they made us pay for it. Marty [St. Louis] had a great night."
Lundqvist is 7-10-0 with a 2.51 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.
The Panthers are coming off of a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday where Tim Thomas picked up a victory after making 38 saves.
"We had a pretty good road trip and we wanted to start the homestand the correct way," Thomas said per NHL.com. "We need to take advantage of being at home and we did that tonight."
Thomas is 6-7-1 with a 2.66 GAA and a .914 save percentage.
The Flyers have four players tied atop the score sheet with 12 points including Brad Boyes (8-4-12), Scottie Upshall (4-8-12), Brian Campbell (3-9-12) and Tomas Fleischmann (3-9-12).
Brad Richards (six goals, 10 assists) and Derek Stepan (five goals, 11 assists) have each led the way for the Rangers while Ryan McDonagh (5-7-12),Chris Kreider (3-9-12) and Mats Zuccarello (2-10-12) each have 12 points thus far.
The Rangers look to start a new winning streak while the Panthers look to continue its recent success when the puck drops tonight at the BB&T Center in Florida.
