Tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET the machine-like San Antonio Spurs (10-1) will travel to Memphis and attempt to execute their precise offense against the bruising front line and stout defense of the Grizzlies (7-5) on ESPN. The Grizzlies have overcome a slow start and won four straight games heading into tonight's confrontation with the most consistent team in the West. Point guard Mike Conley attributes the recent success to growing familiarity with one another and the new system.
"New coach, new offense ... we just have to get used to it," Conley said. "Now we've been able to figure it out." Conley is rapidly becoming Memphis' most important player; he leads the team in both points (18.6) and assists (5.6) per game. He entered the league with a reputation for strong defense though, and will be tasked with slowing down Tony Parker.
Parker and the Spurs are riding an eight-game winning streak themselves, and even though many have come against sub-.500 teams Parker's not giving the wins back. "You still have to win the games," Parker said. "You don't want to give up games, because it adds up later in the year for home-court. We haven't played the best teams in the league, that's for sure, but you still have to go win in New York and Philly. You still have to win games, because the NBA is not easy."
Memphis doesn't plan on letting this game be easy either. "We have to come out, be consistent, and give ourselves a chance," power forward Zach Randolph said. "We know what type of team we've got -- we're a good team. So we just have to come out and play."
