Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid came up with a unique way to describe Peyton Manning's greatness.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Reid compared himself to Manning, but the comment wasn't at all boastful. The Chiefs are trying to make a statement that their 9-0 record isn't a fluke as they get ready to take on the 8-1 Broncos at Sports Authority Field on Sunday night.
The Broncos will return the favor and travel to Kansas City on Dec. 1.
That statement, however, probably wasn't the one Reid said Wednesday, which was entertaining and may have put Reid in consideration for world-class eating accolades.
During a Reid news conference on Wednesday, the Chiefs head coach fielded a question about what makes Manning so great.
"He's a smart guy that works extremely hard and is very accurate," Reid replied, stating the obvious. "He knows everything that's going on within his offense. Over the years, he's got that dissected and figured out backward and forward. He's a good football player."
The follow-up question was about whether Manning's intelligence is what sets him apart from other quarterbacks in the NFL. That's when Reid found his way in uncharted waters.
I would tell you he's talented," he said. "Yeah, there's talent there. You and I could do this at a buffet, but he does it on the football field. There's some athletic ability that takes place there."
Whether Reid could compete with hot dog-eating champion Joey Chestnut is not immediately apparent.
The Broncos come into the game with the No. 1 offense in the NFL with an average of 458.7 yards per game and 41.2 points per game. The Chiefs counter with the No. 1-ranked scoring defense with an average of 12.3 points allowed per game.
