Boston Celtics Going After Paul George, Celtics Has To Offer 2017 Brooklyn Nets First Round Pick

The Boston Celtics has distanced itself from the Carmelo Anthony trade drama and are now looking for possible trades that will get them either Jimmy Butler or Paul George. The Celtics' preference of Butler and George over Anthony is said to be because the team wants to add a younger catalyst on their team.

According to The Vertical, the Boston Celtics has displayed very minimal interest in acquiring the services of Carmelo Anthony. The report also suggested that the team is in continues pursuit to get Jimmy Butler and Paul George via trade.

A Jimmy Butler or Paul George trade will be a tough task for the Celtics. Both players are considered franchise cornerstones and arguably the best players on their respective teams.

However, a recent report from Metro suggests that the possibility that Indiana Pacers will consider trading Paul George to Boston actually exists. The Celtics will reportedly have to put in play George's impending free agency for Indiana to even consider trading its star forward.

The close relationship between Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge and Indiana Pacers President Larry Bird will probably play a role in Paul George Boston Celtics trade talks. However, Bird will not give his franchise player easily even if it is to bolster his former team's chance of winning another title.

Aside from its young core, the biggest trade asset that the Celtics currently has is the 2017 first round pick from Brooklyn. The pick has a great chance to be the no.1 considering Brooklyn's current record.

Celtics must put the 2017 Brooklyn pick in play in order for Bird to consider trading George. The impending free agency of the All-Star forward will also be crucial in the Paul George Boston Celtics trade talks. The Paces will be forced to trade its star player if there is no guarantee that George will be signing a contract extension next offseason.
