The 2025 NFL Draft is happening in a few days, but a rumored reunion between quarterback Bryce Young and wide receiver Jameson Williams is generating some noise around the league.

The Carolina Panthers, who have just finished up a disappointing offensive season in 2024, might be considering a daring maneuver to get their offense going again, and bringing back Young's go-to college receiver might be what they need.

A Familiar Face for Bryce Young

In 2021, Bryce Young flew into Heisman Trophy heaven on the strength of a monster campaign at Alabama, helped along the way by his favorite target, Jameson Williams.

According to Panthers Wire, the dynamic duo set SEC scoreboards ablaze—Young passed for a conference-high 4,872 yards and 47 touchdowns, and Williams blistered defenses for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Flash forward to 2025, and the Panthers are hungry for precisely the type of dynamic playmaker Williams has been. Carolina's offense finished last season close to the bottom of the league in yards per attempt (6.2), revealing a dire need for a deep-threat option who can stretch the field and provide Young with the weapons he needs to excel.

Trade Rumors Heating Up Before NFL Draft

As reported by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the uncertain fifth-year option status of some 2022 first-rounders, such as Jameson Williams, may prompt possible trade calls in the last few hours leading up to the draft. Breer's report illustrates how teams unwilling to make long-term commitments might look to trade young players for instant draft value.

That opens an interesting window of opportunity for the Panthers. Williams is merely 24 and in his first 1,000-yard season with the Detroit Lions. However, with the fifth-year option on his rookie deal hanging and Detroit considering the long-term cost implications, there is room to step in here with a suitable offer.

Why Jameson Williams Could Be a Great Addition to the Panthers

Williams is more than a name from Young's college past—he's the prototype Carolina doesn't have. His top-end speed, ability to stretch the field, and rapport with Young could immediately alter the face of the Panthers' offense.

The Panthers were unable to make big plays and move the ball consistently downfield last season. Taking Williams in would provide the defense with a new element to concern themselves with and free up other receivers to have less coverage thrown their way while also increasing Young's confidence at the quarterback position.

Will the Lions Listen to Offers?

That's the million-dollar question. The Lions are now constructing around a young foundation and have every incentive to retain Williams as one of Jared Goff's most important weapons.

But if they believe his value is at its peak, or if contract talks break down, they might listen, particularly with a deep wide receiver class on tap in this year's draft.

The Panthers, with draft assets and a clear need, are one of the select teams in a position to make a legitimate push. General Manager Dan Morgan could view this as a chance to speed up the rebuild and provide his young franchise QB with a familiar face to call upon.
