Jahlil Okafor may be teaming up with Anthony Davis in New Orleans to form a formidable front court duo. According to reports, the Philadelphia 76ers is currently in talks with the New Orleans Pelicans for a trade that will send Okafor to the Big Easy.
The Philadelphia 76ers has a crowded frontcourt right now. Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid is currently the go-to forward-centers of the 76ers, a preference that pushed Okafor to the back end of the roster.
Though having three young promising big men in a team is a problem that most teams would welcome, the 76ers cannot have that luxury as there are holes in their roster that needs filling up. This has led the Philadelphia team to explore trade options to send Okafor to another team.
According to ESPN, the Philadelphia 76ers is looking to get at least one future first-round pick from the Okafor trade. The demand for a future first-rounder has caused other teams to back away from the Okafor trade talks.
Okafor is currently averaging 11.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 23 minutes of play this season. Okafor's rookie season was more impressive as the big man tallied 17.5 points and 7.0 rebounds. However, these numbers seemed to be not enough as the Sixers prefer the defensive minded Embiid and Noel.
Pelicans have been searching for a quality big man to back up All-Star forward-center Anthony Davis. The team is said to have explored trading for Greg Monroe and Brook Lopez.
According to CBSSports, the Chicago Bulls is also in the mix to acquire the services of Okafor. The Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers are also in the running to get the talented big man.
With the Feb. 23 trade deadline looming, NBA fans may just see the Okafor trade news real soon. Pelicans are reportedly offering Alexis Ajinca and a future first-round pick for Jahlil Okafor.
