Ryan Lochte may have lost the respect of many people around the world, but his girlfriend still has his back.
Playmate Kayla Rae Reid, who has been linked to the Olympic swimmer for several months, made her first public comments since the bizarre altercation her boyfriend was involved in during the Rio Summer Olympic Games in Brazil.
Lochte and three other U.S. swimmers were involved in an odd ordeal in which one of them broke down a bathroom door at a gas station after not being allowed access into the facilities.
They then had an altercation with a gas station manager and security, which led to Lochte allegedly getting robbed at gunpoint.
The swimmers were reportedly very drunk after leaving a club and when the story first leaked, Lochte claimed he was robbed by people dressed as cops and that one of them put a gun to his head and took his wallet. He omitted a lot of crucial details of the story and, though he stuck to most of the story, some of the details didn't match up.
Though many people have turned on Lochte and the U.S. Olympic Committee is reviewing the case with a possible punishment on the horizon, Reid is sticking by her man.
"I will always support him no matter what," Reid told the Daily Mail outside of LAX earlier this week.
While his girlfriend is forgiving, Lochte's sponsors haven't been. The swimmer was dropped by Speedo and Ralph Lauren after returning to the United States due to the controversy.
Despite a possible punishment, Lochte, who won a gold medal in the 4 x 200 meter men's swimming relay in Rio, is preparing for the 2020 Olympics already.
"He's mentioned this might be his last one, but then sometimes he says he thinks he will go again," Reid said. "I like Tokyo. Tokyo is fun."
Reid defended her boyfriend previously on social media when the scandal first broke and it seems her support isn't wavering.
As for their future, the former Playboy Playmate sees big things ahead.
"We are very close," Reid said. "There are a lot of chapters to come."
