The wrestling world is mourning the death of yet another former wrestler as Balls Mahoney a.k.a. Jonathan Rechner passed away on Tuesday night. He was 44.
Mahoney, who was born in New Jersey, rose to prominence as an ECW Original in the late 1990s and early 2000s and also had a couple of stints in the WWE.
While it's unclear what caused his death, Mahoney apparently suffered from a rough fall days before his passing, according to PWInsider, but it's unknown whether or not it played a factor in his passing. After the fall, Mahoney had to use a walker to get around, became ill and passed away.
The WWE released a statement following the passing of the former wrestler, who surfaced in the WWE from 1995-96 and 2005-08.
"WWE is saddened to learn of reports that Jonathan Rechner, best known for competing in ECW as Balls Mahoney, has passed away," the company wrote on WWE.com. "WWE extends its condolences to Rechner's family, friends and fans."
Mahoney leaves behind a son, who was born in November 2007.
The wrestling world has reacted on Twitter to the loss of one of their own:
