Tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the BB&T Center in Florida, the downtrodden Buffalo Sabres (1-9-1, 3 points) will take on the Panthers (3-6-1, 7 points) in a battle between two teams who need desperate shakeups. Live stream the game here; Sabres fans can hear the game on WGR 550 AM, while Panthers fans can listen in on 560 WQAM.
Sabres goalie Ryan Miller has posted a goals against average this year of 3.01 in eight games, a solid number considering his team scores 1.27 goals per game and allows over 34 shots on goal a night against him. He has also been rumored to be on the trading block so that Buffalo can tear down the whole foundation and rebuild.
They recently played tough against the Boston Bruins for two periods before falling apart in the third period. "I thought we did a good job of hanging around and doing the right things. It was just a couple mistakes. It's just not the kind of mistakes we need right now," Miller said.
Meanwhile in Florida, their goalie Tim Thomas has been placed on injured reserve with a groin injury that forced him to miss four games already this season. He's been replaced by Scott Clemmensen from the minor leagues, but coach Kevin Dineen doesn't expect his reign in net to last.
"We're confident that he's not going to be [on injured reserve] long term. (Thomas is) a quick healer," Dineen said. "He played very well. He played well against Boston. He played fabulous against Minnesota, and we had a really good game going against Chicago so it's unfortunate."
The Sabres start is the worst in team history, but they may get a reprieve tonight against the Panthers, who struggle in similar fashion to create shots. Florida is averaging 26.1 shots on goal a night.
