Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Russell Westbrook Happy In OKC, 'Now' [VIDEO]

Russell Westbrook announced he isn't going anywhere. For now.

The Oklahoma City Thunder guard declared he's happy where he's at now, according to a tweet from Daily Oklahoman reporter Anthony Slater.

Russell Westbrook May Consider Joining Forces With Kevin Durant In Los Angeles In 2017

Of course, the impact of his statement's weight is lessened by the fact that he's under contract with the Thunder until the summer of 2017.

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith has suggested that both Kevin Durant and Westbrook both could take their talents to the West Coast with the Los Angeles Lakers. Durant directly refuted Smith's original suggestion that he could sign with L.A., drawing Smith into a war of words.

Westbrook, however, is a Southern California product and played his college ball at UCLA. He is close friends with Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, and Bryant came to Westbrook's defense last season when Westbrook took 43 shots and scored 54 points in a Thunder loss to the Pacers.

"That's my guy. That's my guy. That's my guy," Westbrook said last spring when the incident occurred, as reported by Fox Sports. "Definitely Kobe is a good friend of mine and somebody that being in L.A. I was able to watch and see become a Hall of Famer and one of the best players to play the game. It's an honor to be able to see somebody like that to be able to have your back and support you."

Rapper Snoop Dog also has been trying to exert influence over Westbrook, posting a photo of the Thunder point guard in a Lakers No. 0 on his Instagram account in 2015. Westbrook is in the fourth year of a five-year contract worth almost $79 million, according to sportrac.com.

The Lakers are looking for a star to replace the aging Kobe Bryant, and his comment almost 18 months before he can sign elsewhere as a free agent likely will be completely forgotten.
