While the Brooklyn Nets try to keep their expensive core healthy by resting veteran starters Deron Williams, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett this preseason, sixth-man Jason Terry will be making his Nets debut on Wednesday against the Boston Celtics.
"It's gonna be fun," Terry responded when asked about how it will be returning to Boston. "For me, I was only there a year. The fans were great, the city was good to me. There's no hard feelings or ill-emotions. I'm gonna see some of my friends; Avery Bradley is almost like a brother to me. Seeing him will be good."
Terry is unsure how many minutes he will play Wednesday night, as is Jason Kidd who said Terry is ready to go for the upcoming season.
"He looks great," Kidd said. "When he's with the white team (in practice) it makes him that much more dangerous in a sense he gets the ball in the basket and understands how to play, sets screens, does all the little things. He's a competitive. He hates to lose so that's what he brings to the table and that's what he's been doing the last couple days."
Terry figures to be a vital cog in the Nets rotation. Despite the starry names, the age of their new stars is worrisome. Brooklyn has a deep bench, including Terry, that will likely get heavy minutes throughout the year. Terry in particular will be necessary to keep Pierce's legs fresh while maintaining the 3-point threat.
Terry agreed with Kidd's assessment of his health. "I've been out there in practice the last couple days. Everything's been going fine, no setbacks. So just being able to get out there in real live game action, it's gonna be good."
Last season was a down year for the bench scorer, as he averaged just 10.1 points per game, and 37 percent from downtown.
