The saga regarding Tim Tebow and the Jacksonville Jaguars possibly signing him were once again denied by the team Thursday, according to reports.
Tebow, who was cut by the New England Patriots out of training camp, had allegedly drawn interest from the Jaguars this past week, but the Examiner is now reporting that a statement from the Jaguars said "there's absolutely no truth" to the rumors. Despite the fact that the team's fans held a small rally in Everbank Field's parking lot and a fan flew a banner that read 'Tebow, Why Not?' over the field Sunday in the Jaguars (0-4) 37-3 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4, Jacksonville simply doesn't seem interested.
It was first rumored that the Jaguars would bring Tebow in to try and help the team claw its way out of the AFC South cellar, and rumors began to pick up steam later in the week when reports started circulating that the Jaguars may indeed be giving Tebow a tryout with the team, but all such reports have been denied as evidenced by the fact that Tebow has yet to try out for the squad.
The rumors circulated as early as January that Jacksonville could be a nice landing spot for Tebow if he ended up unsigned and Jacksonville struggled, but general manager David Caldwell put the kibosh on those rumors way back then.
"I could not imagine Tebow being a Jacksonville Jaguar, even if he's released," Caldwell said back in January.
Tebow was in fact released back in August by New England, but Jacksonville has made no moves to pick him up to try and help their struggling offense.
Despite the fact that Tebow could possibly draw more fans into Jacksonville's stadium, the Jaguars brass have elected not to pick him up despite the struggles of quarterbacks Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne this season.
Gabbert is 33-for-67 so far this season for 300 yards no touchdowns, five interceptions and has been sacked 10 times. Henne, meanwhile, hasn't been all too productive either as he's completed just 46 of 82 passes for 512 yards with one touchdown, two picks, eight sacks and a fumble.
Tebow, who stood out in college by leading the Florida Gators to two BCS National Championships and won the Heisman Trophy, had a sluggish NFL career that peaked in Denver but burned out when he was used sparingly with the Jets. Tebow had a career completion percentage of 47.9 in three years in the NFL while throwing for 2,422 yards with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 989 yards and 12 touchdowns.
While Tebow's career completion percentage is less than half, he still might be an upgrade over what Jacksonville is putting on the field right now, though the Jaguars insist they won't give him the shot to prove so.
