Reports indicate that the following was taped on Tuesday night from Milwaukee, Wisconsin for WWE's SmackDown show that is set to air this Friday night, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. on SyFy network with the WWE just nine nights away from the Battleground pay-per-view Oct. 6:
In the main event of the evening, "The Viper" Randy Orton defeated The Miz with an RKO. During the match, Orton kept beating on the Miz's injuries, which led to the referee disqualifying him, but Triple H came down and ordered that the match be restarted because Orton was "trying" to get disqualified. The beat down continued until an RKO on The Miz ended it.
The match was set up in the opening segment when Triple H came down to the ring and continued to discuss what's best for business. The Miz interrupted the opening segment and said he wanted a match with Orton, and he was granted one which led to the main event of the evening.
In further developments in the feud over the World Heavyweight Championship, Alberto Del Rio defeated R-Truth with the cross arm bar and then challenger Rob Van Dam came out and attacked Del Rio with a steel chair that was handed to him by Ricardo Rodriguez. Backstage, Triple H and Vickie Guerrero decided to make the match between Van Dam and Del Rio at Battleground a hardcore match where anything goes.
In another major storyline that has been playing out, Paul Heyman came out to cut a promo. Heyman blamed the fans for enticing CM Punk to keep trying to beat him up and puts over Punk's Battleground opponent Ryback, while also talking up Curtis Axel.
The Shield made their presence known on the card as well as Dean Ambrose took on Dolph Ziggler for the United States Championship in a match that ended in a no-contest after the Shield all attacked Ziggler when he was on the floor. When Kofi Kingston and Rob Van Dam made the save, a six-man tag team match was set up by Triple H and eventually won by The Shield after Seth Rollins pinned Kingston.
In other action on the card, Antonio Cesaro and Jack Swagger defeated The Prime Time Players after the referee was distracted and missed a pin by Darren Young and eventually Swagger got Young to tap to the ankle lock. In divas action, Divas Champion AJ Lee also defeated Cameron on the program. Also on the card, Santino Marella and The Great Khali knocked off 3MB.
In another Triple H segment, he called The Big show a crybaby in the ring after Show said he hates what Triple H has made him become. Show then threatened to punch him in the face before Triple H reminded him that he needs his job for financial reasons and a frustrated Show walked out of the ring and left.
