Odell Beckham Jr. is already considered one of the finest wide receivers in the NFL less than two years into his career. In an effort to remove all doubt about who is the best, however, Beckham is trying a unique tactic.
The Giants’ leading receiver is making himself become ambidextrous.
JPP's Facing Unrealistic Expectations
Football fans all remember Beckham’s one-handed grab on Sunday Night Football vs. the Cowboys last season that cemented him as an icon worthy of this year’s Madden 16 cover.
Imagine if he could do that with either hand.
Why Drew Brees' Son Wanted The G-Men to Beat The Saints
“Brushing my teeth with my left hand -- this is going to help me,” Beckham told The Wall Street Journal. “Why won’t this help me be more coordinated? You have to have [another hand] so you might as well use it.
“It’s something I’ve been trying recently, to get my left hand intact with the rest of my body. This was finding a way to be better.”
It sounds crazy, but according to a sports medicine scientist named Jordan Metzl, Beckham’s crazy like a fox. Metzl says Beckham is improving his “neuromuscular activation patterns,” by doing things like brushing his teeth, shooting a basketball, and even kicking balls with his left foot. These activities “recruiting different muscle groups,” according to Metzl, and Beckham says he already “increased feel” in both hands.
That’s terrifying for opponents, because Beckham obviously didn’t need any help with his right hand.
