Pau Gasol Shaves Beard [VIDEO] For First Time In Nine Years, Los Angeles Lakers Big Man Tweets Vid; 'A Bets A Bet'

Los Angeles Lakers big man Pau Gasol looks a little bit different these days after losing a friendly wager to his brother and Memphis Grizzlies player Marc Gasol which led to the center having to shave off his beard for the first time in nine years.

Gasol tweeted the following after the shaving was complete:

Gasol shared a video revealing him as beardless:

Gasol hadn't shaved his beard since he was a member of the Memphis Grizzlies back in 2004, but due to losing a bet with his brother over which of the two siblings could lead a group of kids to a healthier way of living this summer, Pau's beard got the ax, according to Yahoo! sports. Pau Gasol lost the bet, dubbed as "The Healthy Competition" to his brother by a slim margin, and the beard had to go.

The whole project and competition was made as a way to help out Gasol's charity called the Gasol Foundation.

It has been an interesting summer for Gasol with the competition and fun and games, but things will get serious when the Lakers open up the season against the LA Clippers at the Staples Center on Oct. 29. The Lakers are looking to bounce back after a decent season that saw them go 45-37, good enough for a playoff berth as the No. 7 seed, but the team fell in the opening round of the playoffs to a sweep at the hands of the eventual Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs.

Gasol is a four-time All-Star and has appeared in 845 NBA games throughout his career while averaging 18.4 points per game throughout his 12-year tenure. Last season with the Lakers, Gasol averaged 13.7 points per game through 49 contests with the Lakers.

So the beard is gone for now, as Gasol preps for the upcoming NBA season.
