New York Jets Roster Cuts: Team Dumps Troubled Running Back Joe McKnight To Keep Suspended Mike Goodson

This is how far Joe McKnight's stock had plummeted with the New York Jets.

The Jets chose to keep running back Mike Goodson, who was arrested in May on drug and handgun charges in May and was promptly suspended four games upon his arrival back at the Jets facility.

Goodson, who was a passenger in a car driven by Garant Evans, was discovered passed out in the passenger seat of a parked car on a New Jersey highway. Police discovered a loaded gun and marijuana in the vehicle. Evans was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The NFL on Monday handed down the suspension to Goodson for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

"I've been away from the team to take care of some important things," Goodson said in a statement through the Jets. "The time was helpful to me and now that I am back, I am going to do everything I can to contribute to the team."

The Jets also released a statement regarding Goodson, saying, "While we welcome Mike back to the organization, we have had direct conversations to make our expectations very clear as we work together to help him move forward in a positive manner, both on and off the field."

Goodson was the first free-agent pick that new Jets general manager John Idzik signed in March.

When Goodson completes his suspension, he can return for the Jets' Oct. 7 game at Atlanta. He cannot practice with the club during his four-game ban.

Of course, McKnight also had his share of problems. The New York Post reported that McKnight was arrested three weeks ago for outstanding warrants from traffic violations.

CBSSports.com reported that McKnight also said he suffered a concussion during training camp when the Jets denied that claim and that he clashed with reporters and failed his conditioning test.

McKnight was a fourth-round draft choice in 2010 but has been a big disappointment during his Jets career.
