At least one Major-League Baseball-affiliated person is trying to cash in on Alex Rodriguez's troubles.
Former Chicago White Sox and Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen made his triumphant return to the world of outlandish remarks Monday, thanks to Rodriguez's potential 211-game suspension for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal.
MLB announced the suspension earlier in the day. Rodriguez has appealed and will be allowed to play until the appeal goes before an arbitrator, according to media reports.
USA Today reported that Guillen, currently out of the baseball-managing business, had the answer as to why Rodriguez has fallen on hard times.
"its all madonnas fault," Guillen tweeted. "every athlete she has been with has gone bad. see canseco, rodman and now rodriguez lol lol lol"
USA Today added that neither Rodriguez nor Madonna ever confirmed a romantic relationship. "People" magazine, however, reported that Rodriguez's then-wife Cynthia left the baseball star in 2008 over his rumored affair with Madonna.
And the New York Post quoted Rodriguez's former trainer, Dodd Romero, who said he believed that A-Rod left his family for the excitement of Madonna. Rodriguez reportedly even showed an avid interest in Kabbalah, in which Madonna practiced.
"Alex, God bless him, is lost," Romero told "People." "I think he got pulled in by the dark side, if you can say that nicely. He's totally brainwashed. ... (Cynthia) believes that is what ruined the marriage."
Of course, Rodriguez admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs as far back as 2001, before he met Madonna.
As for Guillen, he has not been in the limelight much since losing his job with the Marlins at the end of the 2012 season.
But when he was manager, he was a quote machine.
For example, when pitcher Bartolo Colon played for Guillen and the White Sox in 2009, Colon was sent to Triple-A Charlotte for a rehab assignment before joining the parent club but did not report to Charlotte for his start.
Guillen's response, according to BleacherReport.com:
"I worry about Colon because Colon was a big-time Michael Jackson fan. He might watch the TV and cry all day long. Maybe he's in L.A. at his funeral, because I can't find him. When he gets to Charlotte, Oney (Guillen's son) will call me and say he's there. Nobody knows how big of a Jackson fan Colon was. I'm serious. He might be depressed a little bit."
