Aaron Hernandez Hearing For Probable Cause Postponed Until August 22

The probable cause hearing in the Aaron Hernandez murder case  has been delayed  until Aug. 22.

The hearing to determine whether or not Hernandez had probable cause to murder Odin Lloyd was scheduled for Wednesday but was pushed back after prosecutors in the case asked for more time to gather evidence. The prosecution is gathering evidence to present to a grand jury against Hernandez, the 23-year-old former tight end of the New England Patriots.

Hernandez is being investigated after Lloyd, a known acquaintance of Hernandez, was found dead in an industrial park near Hernandez's home on June 17. Hernandez was arrested in suspected connection to the murder on June 26. Hernandez was in court Wednesday, but prosecutors said they are still presenting evidence and the grand jury is still considering it.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder.

Bristol County Assistant District Attorney William McCauley said additional evidence includes a magazine clip for a .45-caliber Glock in a Hummer registered to Hernandez and boxes of ammunition found at a condominium Hernandez leased. Police said that Lloyd was murdered with a .45-caliber gun.

Lloyd, 27, was shot five times on the night he died, and was a semi-professional football player in Boston. Hernandez has been jailed without bail for four weeks. James Sultan, the attorney of Hernandez, objected to delay because Hernandez has been behind bars for the past month.

The judge, however, complied with the request of the prosecution and rescheduled the hearing for Aug. 22.
