Most female tennis players participating in the WTA Tour fall victim to harsh criticisms from applauding fans, speaking pundits, and critiquing media people. One such former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka is no exception.
At 26 years old, Osaka has decided to break her silence, finding her voice to express disquiet against all the negativity many professional athletes face. The tennis star did not mince her words to an internet troll who called her a fluke.
Osaka Hits Back Critic in Latest Threads Post
For instance, four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka recently posted the following message on her official account in Threads where she challenged a troll who called her a "fluke," Metro reports.
Osaka is working to return to tennis after a pregnancy and childbirth break in 2023. It was straightforward.
"I just saw someone call me a fluke," the Japanese athlete wrote on Threads.
She recently played at the China Open, performing relatively well, but had to retire from her last-16 clash with Coco Gauff due to injury.
'How is it possible to be a fluke with 4 grand slams, lighting the Olympic torch, beating multiple top 20 opponents and being close to top 50 the year after giving birth?" Osaka said.
"Foh, you couldn't even touch one of my accomplishments with your fingernail," she added.
Fans Concerned After Osaka's Injury at the China Open
Osaka won the match against Coco Gauff, outplaying the younger one in the first set with a mark of 6-3. However, the second set was tougher for Osaka; she lost it 6-4.
With recurring back pain, Osaka decided to pull herself out of the match just to keep focus on her health. Naturally, the fans were quick to express their concern for the tennis athlete and shower her with love and support for her recovery.
Osaka gave fans an update on her status via Instagram where she posted two entries: one is a photo of her on a court in Beijing, while the other photo featured some green clothing, which is oddly similar to hospital gowns. She captioned it: "How the day started -> how it ended lol," referring to the unfortunate turn of events.
Fans flocked to the comments, worrying and hoping for a speedy recovery.
Essentially Sports spotted one user posting "You're still the GOAT. Heal up ????," expressing support to the struggling athlete.
