Minnesota Timberwolves Close To Signing Free Agent Swingman Corey Brewer

The Minnesota Timberwolves are close to signing free agent swingman Corey Brewer, according to ESPN.

The Wolves reportedly have offered Brewer a three-year deal in the neighborhood of $15 million. Brewer previously played nearly four seasons with Minnesota before being traded to Denver as part of a three-team deal that landed Carmelo Anthony in New York.

With point guard Ricky Rubio finally expected to be healthy and Kevin Martin recently signed to space the floor, Brewer is expected to be counted on to aid star forward Kevin Love along the front line by providing defense, athleticism and solid transition play.

Brewer averaged 12 points, three rebounds and two assists last year in Denver and has career averages of 10 points, three rebounds and two assists. Given that level of versatility and the average league salary, Brewer could prove to be a shrewd investment for the upstart Wolves.

Brewer previously starred at the University of Florida, where he won back-to-back NCAA titles in 2006 and 2007 playing alongside Joakim Noah and Al Horford. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of 2007 NCAA tournament.

Brewer, who won an NBA Championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 201 and also recorded the first triple-double in Florida hoops history in 2005 (15 points, 13 assists, 10 rebounds), attended high school in Tennessee where he was named “Mr. Basketball” and a McDonald’s All American during his senior season.
