Nnamdi Asomugha was once considered one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, on par with Darrelle Revis, then a New York Jet. After setbacks in Philadelphia, Asomugha isn't held in such high esteem on the field, but he'll get more respect off it after marrying Scandal star, Kerry Washington.
The knockout actress, who is carrying around a higher profile than her athlete husband these days, married Asomugha in a secret ceremony in Baine County, Idaho back on June 24th.
While representatives for both Asomugha and Washington have declined to comment, a town clerk said, "It has been recorded in the Blaine County clerk's office that Nnamdi Asomugha and Kerry Washington have been married on the 24th of June in the town of Hailey, Idaho."
As the 32-year-old Asomugha is considered past his prime in his line of work, Washington appears to just be entering hers. She is the lead role on ABC's Scandal, and has also had major roles in hit movies Ray and Django: Unchained.
Asomugha has been getting into some acting and modeling, perhaps already figuring out what is next for him once he hangs up the helmet and cleats. Still, although his past two seasons as a Philadelphia Eagle were not up to the high standards he set, Asomugha likely has some value left to offer.
He's durable, having played in 15 and 16 games the last two seasons, and he only recorded one interception in 2012, but did notch 12 pass defenses. Additionally, as an Oakland Raider Asomugha was tasked with shutting down one side of the field, regardless of who lined up there.
With the Eagles, he was asked to play in a bevy of zone coverages, which was against his strengths. Asomugha is a pure man-to-man cover corner, and is likely to be used as such with Jim Harbaugh in San Francisco.
