The Toronto Blue Jays (36-36) have won nine straight games to claw their way back to .500 after a rocky start, including a dramatic victory last night against the Baltimore Orioles (42-32). Today, the Orioles will attempt to exact revenge at 1:07 p.m. in a game that can be live streamed here. The Blue Jays will use Chien-Ming Wang (1-0, 3.14 ERA), a former back-to-back 19-game winner with the New York Yankees to go for their 10th consecutive win. The Jays are now just five games behind the first place Boston Red Sox, and the American League East is truly a five-team race.
"We've definitely come back to life, that's for sure," manager John Gibbons said. Some would say the same for Wang. In his first start, he showed rust, going seven innings but giving up 10 hits and five earned runs to the Chicago White Sox in a no-decision. His second outing, however, was vintage Wang.
He pitched seven shutout innings in which he gave up seven hits and struck out five while walking only two. Today, Wang and his bowling ball-like sinker will need to keep the ball down against Baltimore's powerful lineup.
Chris Davis enters the game as one of MLB's hottest sluggers, marrying his devastating power (27 home runs, .724 slugging percentage), with pure hitting (.336 average) for the first time in his career. "Chris is in a good place," O's manager Buck Showalter said.
He and center fielder Adam Jones have become one of the league's premier one-two punches. Jones is hitting .302 in 2013, with 15 home runs and 55 RBI. He has also stolen nine bases without getting caught a single time.
