Lenny Dykstra [VIDEO] May Be Released From Prison This Weekend After 15 Months

Lenny Dykstra, former New York Mets star affectionately known as "Nails" by fans of the World Series champion 1986 Mets, might be getting his release from prison this Sunday, according to reports.

Dykstra has served 15 months of a three-year sentence for grand theft auto and filing a falsified financial report. He had also been charged with concealing his assets and money laundering. Dykstra was initially facing a lengthier sentence of 20 years, but his legal team was able to avoid that extreme. Christopher Frankie, who wrote Nailed: The Improbable Rise and Spectacular Fall of Lenny Dykstra, commented on his impending release. Frankie had also served as the editor for Dykstra's financial magazine, The Player's Club.

"I was surprised they let him out before the three years, to be quite frank with you, because he blatantly disobeyed the court, and a lot of the stuff was very brazen. He was doing it in the full view of law enforcement."

Dykstra, who had built himself up as a financially savvy money magnet after his retirement, was accused by prosecutors of leasing and selling cars by claiming credit through non-existent businesses, according to the Los Angeles Times.

I think people in this country really love a comeback story, so he certainly has that opportunity. But I'm not convinced that's the path he's going to take," Frankie said.

In his MLB career, Dykstra was a .285 hitter over 12 seasons. He belted 81 home runs and accumulated 404 RBI in that span, spending most of his time as a table-setter at the top of Mets and Philadelphia Phillies lineups.

He also was a very good baserunner, averaging 36 steals a season for his career and topping out in 1993 with 37 swipes. Dykstra stole 30 or more bases in six of his 12 seasons.
