Lane has been an underrated member of Seattle's "Legion of Boom" secondary all season, largely lining up against opposing slot receivers. He was expected to give Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola trouble in this game, and proved his worth by picking off Brady on the game's opening drive. 

Lane had 63 tackles, three pass defenses and a forced fumble this season. Once Lane left the game, Byron Maxwell, who usually plays opposite Richard Sherman, took over for Lane with reserve Tharold Simon playing on the outside. He was picked on by Brady, who threw three touchdowns to receivers covered by Simon.

He was one of two unheralded Seahawks to excel on the biggest stage the NFL has to offer. Despite lasting just one drive Lane notched the interception, while practice squad receiver Chris Matthews racked up four catches for 109 yards and a touchdown. Neither Seahawk made as big a play as Patriots undrafted free agent corner Malcolm Butler, who saved New England's title with a game-clinching pick of Russell Wilson.
