DeMarco Murray Free Agency: Dallas Cowboys' Four-Year Offer to Running Back 'Insulting?' [VIDEO]

The beauty of a contract worth more than $4 million per year is in the eye of the beholder.

NFL.com is reporting that DeMarco Murray's return is the biggest question mark in the offseason for the Dallas Cowboys - now that Jason Garrett has signed a five-year contract extension and it plans to put the franchise tag on wide receiver Dez Bryant.

According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys have extended an offer of a four-year deal worth in excess of $16 million.

But Murray may not be happy.

San Diego Chargers may try to beat St Louis Rams in playing in Los Angeles.

"It's an insulting offer for a player who was saddled up to carry the team on his legs for the majority of the franchise's best season in nearly a decade," NFL.com reported.

Or is it?

In the next sentence, NFL.com admits that the market for running backs has changed in that free agents at the position no longer command the money their predecessors once did.

Murray had 436 carriers between the regular season and the playoffs, and while his 1,845 regular-season years broke the Cowboys' former mark set by Emmitt Smith, the toll of the workload Murray had in 2014 now will make teams wary of signing him in 2015.

ESPN listed six teams besides the Cowboys who likely will have an interest in Murray that could help push the offers past $4 million per year for his services.

The Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots could entice Murray with Super Bowl potential. The San Diego Chargers also could be a force if he can alleviate pressure on quarterback Philip Rivers. The Tennessee Titans, Oakland Raiders and Atlanta Falcons also can throw some money at him.

Murray's status could have an impact on the return of suspended Adrian Peterson, who has expressed interest in playing for the Cowboys.
