Byron Scott is angry, and Kobe Bryant is frustrated over the Los Angeles Lakers winless start to the 2014-15 NBA season. Pretty soon, Charles Barkley may be starving.
CBSSports.com reported Barkley's out-of-the-blue comments regarding the Lakers on TNT's "Inside the NBA" on Thursday.
Kobe Bryant disses LeBron James? Bryant says leaving team during bad times "not right."
"I'm not going to eat another meal until the Lakers win a game," Barkley told his "Inside the NBA" co-hosts. Later, he tried to correct himself.
"Let me rethink that," Barkley said.
Jeremy Lin snubs Kobe Bryant during game; and Bryant loved it.
Scott, a former guard on the Lakers' Showtime teams of the 1980s, is the team's first year coach. The team's start has him contradicting himself to the media.
"[I'm] not angry -- not even frustrated. No, I think it's more 'angry,' if I have to choose one of those two words, I think it's more angry than anything," said Scott after practice on Thursday to the Los Angeles Times. "I see times where we're doing it the way that we want to do it and then I see times where we're not. It's just a matter of finding that consistency where we can do it for 48 minutes."
And if Scott is angry, the emotions that perfectionist team leader Kobe Bryant is experiencing can't be positive, either.
"It's a learning process but it's very, very frustrating," Bryant told the Times after the Lakers' 112-106 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. "It's upsetting, but we have to stay determined."
Scott noted that Bryant has kept his temper in check during the team's early struggles but noted that frustration is starting to affect Bryant's demeanor.
"I think he's been very patient, as far as dealing with his teammates," Scott said. "Just like every great player, you do get a little frustrated. He was frustrated after the Phoenix game; I think we all were. He probably showed it a little bit more than we did."
But even Bryant's behavior may be mild compared to that of Barkley if he has to go a long time without eating. The Lakers don't play again until Sunday, meaning Barkley already would miss four days of meals.
That might be the only thing to trump Bryant's temper.
