Tim Tebow News: Jameis Winston Gets Advice From Fellow Former Heisman Winner, Warned To Seek 'Wise Counsel'

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, the 2013 Heisman winner who can't seem to stay out of trouble off the field, has gotten some advice from a fellow Heisman winner-Tim Tebow.

Both players have the experience of being star quarterbacks in the football-mad state of Florida, and Tebow is advising Winston to start listening to smarter people. Winston was suspended for last week's win over the Clemson Tigers for screaming obscenities on FSU's crowded campus.

"He has something that's more important to live for than just the moment," Tebow said on SportsCenter. "Because when you live for the moment, the moment will always let you down in silly situations like he's been in the past.

"I have two sisters and a mom, and what was said just isn't OK. My hope and prayer for Jameis is that he can find people that will invest in him and invest in his life."

Last season Winston won a national title for the undefeated Seminoles-on the way there he threw 40 touchdown passes, amassed 4,057 yards through the air, and added 219 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Off the field though, Winston's been mired in several controversies. He was accused of rape by a fellow student but authorities eventually decided there wasn't enough evidence to charge him. Over the summer he was suspended from the Seminoles' baseball team for a few games after stealing crab legs from a supermarket.

Tebow urged Winston to find "wise counsel," because young kids will be looking up to him as an ambassador for college football.

"I hope he can see that and understand that these kids are going to watch him and they're going to follow him and it's his responsibility to lead them in a good direction," Tebow said.

"And this kid has so many attributes that could be used for positive things. ... Whether ... he leads people in a good direction or a bad direction, he's a big-time leader. His attributes of infectious personality, you know people rally around him. That could be used for good things or bad things."
