The best thing Caroline Wozniacki can say about her week is that it's over.

In a result that should surprise no one, the women's No. 13 seed experienced a quick exit from the French Open on Tuesday, losing her first-round match to 64th-ranked Yanina Wickmayer 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-2.
Not only had Wozniacki entered the tournament almost without any on-court preparation - a knee injury has prevented her from any kind of running or serving for weeks, according to reports. But there was also a small matter of her breakup with golfer Rory McIlroy that was the hottest of topics last week when McIlroy announced the breakup prior to the BMW PGA Championship in Virginia Water, England.
McIlroy had said that the breakup was mutual when he spoke before the BMW PGA European Tour event.
"It was mutual and amicable and we both thought it was the best for us, the best for both of us," he said, according to multiple reports. "Time to move on and I think I've said all that I need to say."
Wozniacki's first comments to the media about her side of the story, however, suggested anything but.
"Obviously you're not prepared for something like this, and it came as a bit of a shock," she said, according to the Daily Mail. "I just tried to prepare the best that I could. It doesn't make it easier that I haven't been able to play many matches because I have been injured. I felt a bit rusty out there, it wasn't really a pretty match but I tried."
Despite her personal drama, at no time did Wozniacki, a former No. 1 player in 2010, ever think to withdraw from the Grand Slam event at Roland Garros.
"I always wanted to play here; you need to keep moving forward. This is what I do and is my profession," she said. "The crowd was great; I definitely can't blame anyone but myself out there today.
"I would rather have been her longer but it's not to be. I guess what's supposed to happen will happen. So I'm just going to get myself together and prepare for the grass. Wimbledon is a better surface for me."
