Bobby Parnell has been diagnosed with a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right elbow. Parnell showed diminished velocity on his pitches during Monday's Opening Day game and throughout the spring.

The Mets’ closer complained of tightness in his forearm after the game and the partial tear was found following an MRI. Parnell received a platelet-rich plasma injection and will rest for two weeks before resuming a throwing program, but surgery is possible if he doesn't show improvement.

While this is disappointing news for fantasy owners who drafted Parnell, hold back the tears long enough to scoop Jose Valverde from the Waiver Wire. Valverde is only owned in 12 percent of CBSSports.com leagues and should receive save opportunities for the Mets for the foreseeable future.
