Michael Sam gay: Negative reactions to first openly gay draft prospect? Mizzou TE Eric Waters claims Tigers teammates fake, Former Cowboy Patrick Crayton: 'There goes NFL' [VIDEO]

While the reaction to Missouri defensive end Michael Sam coming out as openly gay has been generally positive, there were bound to be detractors. According to former teammate Eric Waters, a Mizzou tight end, some of those detractors are being phony in public right now.

"Half of y'all posting these pics saying how proud you are. But most of y'all was the ones talkin s--t behind his back in the locker room," Waters tweeted. Apparently realizing tweets like this would be viewed in a negative light, Waters assumed a defiant internet posture.

"If you don't like what I have to say then don't follow me. I'm sleeping the real. If you don't like hearing the truth then click unfollow," Waters wrote followed by, "I refuse to sugar coat the truth... Like I said if you have a problem please click the unfollow button and save yourself from the truth." He tweeted "There goes the NFL," and received a healthy amount of backlash.

Crayton is now explaining his comment as concern for how it will affect the perception of Sam by NFL executives. "A lot of people are mad because I said there goes the NFL," he wrote. "I say that because now this young man is (going) to get all the wrong attention for his sexual choice and a lot of players and execs will get asked about playing with a gay guy and they are going to have to lie about how they really feel.

"This young man will come in with notoriety for announcing his sexual choice more then his ability to play the game he loves!!! This will be a major thing in football for yrs to come. So for all u guys cussing at me and calling me a bigot, a-hole or whatever, know where (expletive) I'm coming from before u do what u hate others to do when a situation like this is announced!!"
