Danny Garcia Next Fight Lamont Peterson? Calls Out 'Swift' For Final Bout Before Moving To Welterweight? Lucas Matthysse Loss A Black Mark [VIDEO]

Danny "Swift" Garcia is in a similar quandary at this point in his career to Floyd Mayweather Jr.--just on a smaller scale. The undefeated champion at 140 lbs. is scouring the land for an entertaining opponent, since Mayweather's not looking his way, and coming up empty.

Enter Lamont Peterson?

Garcia is widely expected to move up to the welterweight division sooner rather than later, as he's cleaned out the 140-lb. weight class. He hasn't faced Peterson yet though, and Garcia's said previously he isn't prepared right this second to move up in weight. The D.C. native is also looking to move upward, and is hoping to land a matchup with the Philadelphia native.

"Of course it's a fight that interests me; he's holding two of the titles at the weight class and he's considered to be the best fighter at the weight class. Of course getting a shot at the crown is very important because the reason why I stay at the weight class is because I want to be the number one fighter before I move up to 147 pounds," Peterson said.

Peterson appears to be out of luck though. Garcia has declined thus far to entertain a rematch with Lucas Matthysse, whom he defeated on Mayweather's undercard on September 14th. Outside of "Swift," Matthysse's still the top name in the weight class, and he brutally knocked Peterson out prior to facing Danny.

Still, Peterson's holding out hope. "My thoughts on Danny Garcia are he's a really good fighter. He's proven himself over and over again. He's a strong fighter and takes a good punch. He shows up every night and every time he has a fight he shows up and he wins. So I got a lot of respect for him and hopefully one day we can fight."

Peterson is scheduled to face Dierry Jean on January 25th, and could make himself a more attractive candidate if he's able to win impressively.
