The Buckeyes are in a BCS bowl game this year, but their accomplishment is likely bittersweet. Ohio State had a chance at making the BCS national championship game, but fell short against Michigan State in the conference championship game.
"Obviously, we're not going to where we thought we were going or where we wanted to be going, but we're playing in the Orange Bowl and that's a big-time bowl game," Ohio State offensive lineman Jack Mewhort said.
When you start going back to the coulda, woulda, shouldas, that's poisonous for a team. It's our job as leaders to look ahead and make sure everybody is doing their business."
Indeed they can't afford to be poisoned. Clemson touts a Heisman-caliber quarterback named Tajh Boyd, who led an offense which scored 40.2 points per game on average. Clemson faces almost their mirror image though in Braxton Miller, who headed a 46.2 points per game attack. Both teams gave up 21 points a game on average.
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer seems to be readying for a firefight. "I've been watching Tajh Boyd play for many years now and I think he's transitioned from a good player to a great player," Meyer said. "He's a dynamic thrower. And as with most excellent quarterbacks, his surrounding cast might be the best in America."
The difference maker here may be Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who paced the ACC with 85 catches for 1,237 yards and 10 touchdowns.
