The Rose Bowl kicks off from Pasadena, California at 5:00 p.m. ET on ABC today, and will feature No. 5 Stanford (11-2, 7-2 Pac-12) and No. 4 Michigan State (12-1, 8-0 Big Ten) in the annual clash between the two conferences. Watch the game on ESPN or live stream it free here. Stanford Cardinal fans can listen to the game on 1050 KNBR, while Spartans fans can find the radio broadcast on WJR-AM 760.
The Spartans ran the table in the Big Ten this year, including an upset of a high-powered Ohio State team featuring Braxton Miller at quarterback and Urban Meyer on the sidelines, helping head coach Mark Dantonio reach his first Rose Bowl since his days as a Buckeyes assistant in 1984.
"It's going to be a special moment when we walk out on that field," Dantonio said. "When you set down and write down your goals and think about the goals in whatever job that you take or occupation, you're going to have some different things that you want to try to accomplish. That was one of the things we were trying to accomplish."
Not only does this mark Dantonio's first Rose Bow, it is the first BCS Bowl appearance ever by Michigan State football. Stanford, on the other hand, took down Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl just last year.
"Our guys have fond memories of it, but they've already started to say it: 'Last year was last year, and we have to prepare this year completely different,'" Cardinal coach David Shaw said. "Michigan State has been on a phenomenal run, tough competition, and has come to play every week. We know it's going to be a great game."
Michigan State will have to contend with bruising Stanford running back Tyler Gaffney, who ran for 1,618 yards and 20 touchdowns this season. They will need to do it without key linebacker Max Bullough, who had 76 tackles on the year, including 9.5 for losses.
